Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Supports Expo
Quebec's International Development Plan
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - August 2, 2005) -
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Minister Andy Mitchell today announced
$150,000 in financial assistance to Expo Quebec. With nearly 400,000
visitors and some $30 million in economic benefits each year, Expo
Quebec is one of the largest tourism draws in Eastern Canada.
The exhibition brings together 700 animal producers registered
in seven province-wide competition categories. A number of promotional
activities will also be undertaken including the organization of
an international fair and the completion of preparatory steps for
the incorporation of the international marketing strategy by the
summer of 2006.
"The international marketing strategy for the agricultural
component of the event will contribute to the promotion of Canadian
livestock in foreign markets and will foster growth of international
sales," said Minister Mitchell. "With its focus on excellence,
Expo Quebec has everything it takes to become the hub for genetics
and trading of Canadian livestock in North America."
The Government of Canada's contribution will also support a Canadian
culinary riches and flavours of Thailand project at the Carrefour
agroalimentaire, showcasing culinary demonstrations by prominent
Canadian chefs from across Canada, as well as by a chef from Thailand.
The project demonstrates Expo Quebec's desire to promote the diversity
of Canadian agri-food products and will help create special ties
between Canadian and foreign chefs.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's financial support is provided
through the Canadian Agriculture and Food International (CAFI) Program,
which is designed to support Canadian industry facilitating long-term
international marketing strategies.
