3 Diamond Award Winning Canadian Inn

Midland Canada, December, 2005........ There are few Bed and Breakfast properties in Canada that can claim a “Three Diamond Award” for eight consecutive years. Little Lake Inn Bed and Breakfast in the quaint town of Midland, Ontario has achieved that distinction.

Tourism editors of the American Automobile Association (AAA) and the affiliate Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) have awarded Little Lake Inn their ‘Three Diamond” rating for eight consecutive years, making the Inn one of the top rated B & B accommodation properties in Ontario’s historic Southern Georgian Bay resort area.

“It has been critical over the years that we respond to the needs of our guests who expect the ‘Three Diamond’ level of service,” according to Jennifer Hart, who owns the Inn along with her husband Milton Haynes,
The 2005, Ontario AAA/CAA Tour Book explains the requirements for the ‘Three Diamond’ rating as follows: “Establishments that appeal to the traveller with comprehensive needs. Properties which are multifaceted with a distinguished style, including marked upgrades in the quality of physical attributes, amenities and level of comfort provided. The editors rate each lodging on the overall quality, range of facilities and the level of services offered by a property. The size, age and overall appeal are considered as well as regional architectural style and design.”

Little Lake Inn Bed & Breakfast offers a unique alternative to hotels. It was established in 1997, when Milton and Jennifer fell in love with the view from the backyard overlooking the park setting and Little Lake. They purchased the property and carried out extensive renovations to transform the home into comfortable lodging for visitors to the Georgian Bay area.

It is an honour to receive this prestigious rating, however maintaining the three-diamond level takes dedication and a caring owner.

Hart adds, “We are constantly keeping our eyes open for new ideas. Initially, when we were awarded our three-diamond rating we did not have all ensuite bathrooms, but this changed quite quickly when we found out that visitors wanted ensuites. Our AAA/CAA inspector said he was so relieved that we had not only upgraded to all ensuite bathrooms, but had added the Jacuzzi tubs-for-two and fireplaces. Without these renovations, he was reluctantly going to advise us that our rating would have to drop to the Two Diamond status because of the increased requirement to maintain a Three Diamond rating. Luckily we were ahead of him, and retained our three Diamonds.”

Midland Ontario is located in the Province of Ontario, just 90 minutes north of Toronto. Midland is considered to be one of Canada’s historic resort destinations and represents one of the earliest interior settlements in North America. The area was first visited by Samuel de Champlain in 1615.
