GOOD MORNING AMERICA FEATURES ALBERTA AS DREAM HOLIDAY

A Travel Alberta "trip of a lifetime" will be highlighted by ABC's Good Morning America this week as families compete on the popular TV show for a dream holiday.

National Geographic Traveler and Good Morning America present the "Good To Go Family Vacation" ( www.nationalgeographic.com/traveler/extras/gma/index.html) segment Aug. 10 and Aug. 12. Three families are expected to be profiled on Good Morning America on Aug. 10, with voting on the show's website to choose the winner beginning immediately after the segment airs.

Alberta, Tahiti, South Africa and New Zealand will be showcased as potential destinations when the winning family is expected to be announced on the ABC-TV weekly morning news talk show Aug. 12.

The 12-day Alberta trip begins in Calgary. The winning family would travel to Dinosaur Provincial Park in the Canadian Badlands, explore the historic Cowboy Trail, spend a night in a tipi and visit a working guest ranch. The next step would be the Canadian Rocky Mountains, featuring Banff National Park and Banff Upper Hot Springs, Lake Louise and Victoria Glacier. A drive along the magnificent Icefields Parkway leads to the town of Jasper in Jasper National Park. The family would enjoy a boat cruise around Spirit Island, followed by a Rocky Mountaineer scenic rail tour. The final stop would be Vancouver for two days of sightseeing and kayaking.

"This contest is a great opportunity to present Alberta as a premiere travel destination," said Klaus Roth, Travel Alberta Portfolio Manager, Americas. "It shows Alberta is considered one of the world's most desired holidays, especially for families."

National Geographic Traveler notified the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), along with tourism agencies of other countries, for submissions. The CTC in turn invited all provinces and territories to submit a 'trip of a lifetime.' A panel of judges read all submissions, reducing the number of destinations to 10, then eight and finally to four.

After the winning family is announced, voting begins and continues until Aug. 15. There will be a link to vote for Alberta on the Good Morning America website ( www.abcnews.go.com/GMA) on Aug. 12.
