Ron Taylor, was born in Toronto, and fell in love
with cottage country during his summers as a Sous Chef at Elgin
House Resort and Deerhurst Resort in the late 60’s and early
70’s. He eventually moved to Huntsville to work full time
at Deerhurst Resort, then under the ownership of Bill Waterhouse.
He spent a number of year’s cottaging in the
Georgian Bay, Muskoka, Barry’s Bay and Haliburton areas. When
he worked with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts marketing the famous
Minaki Lodge in Northwest Ontario he also enjoyed exploring the
Lake of the Woods.
Ron’s dream was to be a resort owner and he
became a working shareholder at Sherwood Inn in Muskoka. He was
a part of the team that developed the resort to a “Double-Four-Diamond”
American Automobile AAA rated property for dining and accommodation.
The property was sold to Club Link in l997.
Ron has been involved with the marketing of many tourism
related -properties throughout Ontario. Recent projects include
the development of marketing plans for summer and winter resorts,
hotels and motels, press release distribution for a number of attractions
and resorts, judging at the Ontario Marketing Championships for
Community Colleges, and a workshop host for the Ontario Ministry
of Agriculture and Food with their “Beyond the City Lights”
rural tourism seminar.
Ron's ability to recognize opportunities and create
innovative packages and partnerships has been clearly demonstrated
back to the development of the Second City packages for Deerhurst
Inn. He was instrumental in creating the Deerhurst Inn as a brand
resort and was instrumental in the creation of the Hidden Valley
Connection with accommodation and ski partners in Huntsville.
He was shot during the resort industry’s first
Murder Mystery Weekend at Sherwood Inn, introduced the culinary
cooking classes to Sherwood Inn in the 90’s and, most recently,
developed the VIK Klub (the very important kids klub) for the Delawana
Inn Resort.
As a former Professor of Tourism at Georgian College
in Barrie, Ron developed several of the specialty courses such as
Selling to the Travel Trade, Conference Sales and Services, and
Travel Packaging For The Consumer. He has conducted workshops for
the Ministry of Tourism, the International Development Bank in conjunction
with the Jamaican Tourist Board, and the World Tourism Organization
in Spain. He was the lead in editing a marketing textbook for the
Canadian Tourism Industry, and writing a case Study Workbook, to
accompany the publication.
