As the days begin to get longer there are many ways of celebrating and experiencing winter fun in January in Canada.  Winter getaways often include a variety of outdoor winter sports including skiing, tubing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and making a rink for skating.  Canadians celebrate winter.

January 1:  New Years

January 1: 1914, January 1 - The last spike is driven in the Canadian Northern Ontario Railway See Railroad History

January 11: Canada's First Prime Minister John A. MacDonald Birthday in 1815.  Celebrate in Kingston Ontario

January 13: 1899,  The Canadian Northern Railway is formed by the amalgamation of the Winnipeg Great Northern Railway and the Lake Manitoba Railway and Canal Company.

January 31:  1880- An Ice Railway is opened between Longueuil and Montreal by the Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa and Occidental Railway.
