Canadian ode to maple syrup named Cookbook of the Year

A 386-page ode to Canada's national food, maple syrup, was named Cookbook of the Year at an international competition in Paris over the weekend.From Martin Picard, the chef perhaps best known for doing gastronomically obscene things with foie gras (such as topping it on poutine and making it into a hamburger) at his Montreal restaurant Au Pied de Cochon, comes "Cabane à sucre Au Pied de Cochon," a cookbook that took top honors at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Paris this past February.
